Driffield Show Gears Up for Grand 150th Milestone Celebration
Plans and preparations are underway to make this year’s Driffield Show an event to remember as it celebrates its milestone 150th Show.
Organisers are promising this landmark year will be bigger than ever with a host of special touches and celebrations planned to honour the rich heritage of the event.
Taking place on Wednesday, 22nd July, visitors can expect a packed programme with a mix of attractions, displays, demonstrations and hands-on activities to appeal to all ages.
At its heart, the Show remains a celebration of agriculture, with the livestock area showcasing some of the finest cattle, sheep and pigs from across the region.
The ever-popular heavy horse classes, sponsored by Smailes Goldie Group, are a favourite with the crowds, while the equine section promises a full and varied schedule.
From local ridden ponies through to high-level competition, the main ring programme includes the prestigious Open Championship Show Jumping class, supported by Rican ATV Ltd.
The companion dog show, in aid of Ryedale Dog Rescue, will return, offering a fun opportunity for four-legged friends to take centre stage – whether for the waggiest tail or the kindest eyes.
Celebrating its rural roots remains central to the Show’s success. The much-loved ‘Wheat to Pizza’ demonstration will once again give visitors the chance to get involved and follow the journey from field to plate.
Showcasing modern farming and forestry innovations, the Agricultural Machinery Demonstration Arena and Forestry Section will offer a fascinating insight into equipment and techniques not often seen up close.
With close to 400 trade stands, visitors can enjoy everything from shopping and crafts to fashion and rural produce. The popular Food Zone, supported by Rose Cottage Pantry, will offer a wide selection of food and drink, complemented by picnic seating and live music from the bandstand.
The Horticulture marquee will also be providing visitors with a colourful contribution courtesy of green fingered exhibitors and will also be the home of the Gardeners’ Theatre where visitors will be able to take a seat and watch the horticulture demonstrations that will be taking place throughout the day.
The Handicraft Section is also open for entries, with an expanded range of classes encouraging creativity from all ages and abilities.
Atkinson Action Horses will make a welcome return to this year’s Show appearing in the GSC Grays Main Ring, while the Countryside Arena and Activity Arena will host an exciting line-up including Battle of the Bikes, the ever-popular Dangerous Steve Stunt Show and Ferret World, with further attractions still to be announced.
