Annual scale model show returns to Driffield this weekend

The eighth annual East Riding of Yorkshire Scale Model Show will take place at Driffield Showground this weekend ( Sunday 1st September).

The show, hosted by IPMS Bridlington and Wolds Scale Model Club, consists of up to 30 club and special interest groups from as far and wide as Kent and Scotland displaying handmade scale models and will take place on Sunday 1st September 2019.

All are welcome to witness the huge variety of models and a chance to meet the modellers and talk about the models on display, as well as seek advice and guidance into making models whatever genre you might be interested in.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Scale Model Show will be held in the Rix Pavilion on Sunday 1st September 2019 from 9:30am to 4pm.

Entry is £3.50, whilst children up to the age of 15 are free with an accompanied adult.

There will be scale models of aircraft, ships, tanks, figures, sci-fi, even the odd dinosaur and fantasy items.

In addition, Bridlington Model Boat Society will display their large-scale radio-controlled ships and boats, together with the Scarborough Model Flying Club with radio controlled flying models which, weather permitting, will be put into action.

The show also has a number of specific competitions taking place, with trophies and rosettes being awarded for best models, best club stand and special named awards.

New for 2019, an East Riding of Yorkshire Trophy for the best model that depicts anything that is connected with the county will be given.

IPMS Bridlington and Wolds Scale Model Club’s show director, Kevin Dolman, told the Wolds Weekly: “We’re really looking forward to this year’s show.

“There will be a large display of 1350 scale ships, which is the first time we’ve had something like this.

“Each year, we aim for a different theme, with 2018 being a celebration of 100 years of the RAF.

“For 2019, we have chosen an East Yorkshire theme, with a competition for the best model depicting anything to have served in East Yorkshire, whether that be a tractor, boat or plane.

“The winner of the competition will then receive the East Riding of Yorkshire Trophy.”

East Riding of Yorkshire Scale Model Show’s chosen charity for this year is once again Yorkshire Air Ambulance, for whom there will be made models, model kits, books and magazines for sale.

All proceeds from this go to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, with £517 raised in 2018.
