The 2026 season gets underway at Driffield Rec

Another busy season is about to get underway at Driffield Town Cricket & Recreation Club, with cricket, tennis and bowls players back in action after their winter.

Off the field, it’s been a hive of activity on Kings Mill Road, where a refurbishment of the clubhouse has been taking place.

Funded by several grants, the club’s snooker room has been transformed into a new social area, perfect for use by community groups, charities, businesses or families who are looking for a space to hold events, meetings and parties.

Whilst two snooker tables remain, the other half of the room now has a fresh, modern look, with two new high-grade dartboards, complete with scoreboards and oches, ready for action.

Budding Luke Littlers from Driffield and the Wolds have already had chance to use the new facility during the Driffield Cricket Club – Junior Darts League, which saw four teams compete throughout March, whilst local senior players took to the oche on Good Friday as part of a well-attended tournament.

For those who want to enjoy a pint whilst watching the cricket, they can relax into the room’s brand-new furniture, whilst the club expects to open a large patio area that will become one of the largest beer gardens in Driffield, later in spring.

As well as watching the action outside, you can catch every goal, wicket or try on the club’s big screens, all of which have Sky TV, and are perfect for a big summer of sport, including the football World Cup, the end of the domestic football season, international cricket and Wimbledon.

There’s also a dartboard and pool table in the bar area of the clubhouse, where quizzes, community events, clubs and activities are hosted throughout the year.

The club’s fortnightly winter quizzes often raise funds for local and national charities on Thursdays between September and April.

The clubhouse has a large car park, and the recent refurb has made it an even more welcoming place to relax with friends over a drink from the bar, whilst watching local sport on the manicured playing surfaces, all prepared by head groundsman Mark Goddard and his team.

Disabled access is provided throughout the clubhouse.

“In terms of the new development, we want the room to be used by the Driffield community, not just our members,” said Ian Stabler and Peter Lomas on behalf of the club.

“Given the reduced facilities for hosting events, meetings and parties in Driffield, particularly given the closure of The Bell Hotel, we see this as an opportunity for people to hire the new room seven days a week.

“We’re delighted with how it looks and would encourage people to come along and have a look for themselves.”
