Fisherman airlifted to hospital after falling from harbour wall

Emergency services were called out shortly after midday today (Friday 13th September 2019) to reports that a fisherman had fallen off the Bridlington harbour wall and landed on the deck of a fishing boat.

Crews from Bridlington RNLI, Bridlington HM Coastguard, Humberside Police, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance assembled at South pier to assist the casualty who had fallen over five metres and ended up in the bottom of the boat.

The RNLI inshore lifeboat crew, headed by Helm Grant Walkington, reached the fishing boat there was very little water in the harbour making the approach very tricky.

By the time the casualty had been evaluated and placed safely into the lifeboat stretcher, the tide had risen enough to transfer him into the inshore lifeboat.

The RNLI crew, along with a YAA doctor on board, slowly moved across the harbour towards the North Pier to the HM Coastguard teams and Ambulance staff before the casualty was airlifted to hospital by the awaiting Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
