North Dalton pub welcomes back punters after three years

The Star Inn at North Dalton has welcomed punters for the first time in three years.

An invitation evening was hosted by licensee Andy Macdonald before the pub opened to the general public from Wednesday 13th July.

The Star Inn has been closed since July 2019 but was purchased in September 2021 by The Old Mill Brewery.

The Snaith-based brewery owns 17 other inns, predominantly in Yorkshire, including Ferns Farm in Carnaby and The Mission in Hull.

The Star Inn has undergone a major refurbishment and will provide a traditional home-cooked pub menu including homemade pies, garlic flatbreads and sea bass, as well as local ales and Old Mill’s best.

Food will be served from 25th July.

Andy told the Wolds Weekly: “It’s really excited to finally be opening The Star Inn.

“It’s been quite a challenge, but we wanted to do it right and we invited villagers, contractors and those associated with the brewery for our opening night.

“We’ll be opening daily at 11am with local ales, as well as starting with one of Old Mill’s traditional blondes and a guest ale every month.

“We’re also going to be offering takeaway coffees, homemade cakes and gluten free and vegan options.”

Andy, who has been opening new pubs and similar facilities for around 30 years, is aiming to make The Star Inn part of the community.

“I’ve been opening new builds for 30 years now and although I’ve not done so for a few years, this opportunity was too good to turn down,” he added.

“Being in a village is fantastic as it really is a hub for the area and we want The Star Inn to be part of the North Dalton community.

“If people are short of a few eggs, we want them to feel they can come to us to ask and we’re hoping to bring a café vibe to part of the pub too.”
