Even the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the runners who took part in the inaugural Hutton Cranswick 10K which raised almost £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The run, which was followed by a family fun day in association with Hutton Cranswick SRA, was organised by village resident Alice Read.

Alice is participating in this year’s London Marathon in aid of Macmillan which continues to support her close friend who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer shortly after giving birth last year.

More than 70 runners took part in the 10K on Sunday morning which saw the athletes head out to Skerne and back to the SRA. Alice said the run was a great success.

“The runners arrived with high spirits and a supportive attitude which in its own way created some sunshine,” she said.

“Our route marshals did a fantastic job and their efforts did not go unnoticed either.

“Every single one of the 71 runners on the day completed the course and I lost count of the number who shared their interest in the event happening again next year, which speaks volumes.

“The runners all seemed to enjoy themselves and stayed for drinks, food and to support the small businesses who attended with stalls.

“Thankfully, the rain cleared and so the bouncy slide by J Bouncetastic could be enjoyed.

“Julie-Marie was our ever-successful face painter and the tombola, raffle and cake stall all raised plenty of pennies for Macmillan.

“Carters Ice Cream van and The Greek Street Food van also did very well and local takeaway SAMA-SAMA sold amazing south east Asian puddings too. It really was a community effort.

“On Sunday, we raised a total of £1,810, bringing the running total to £2,134!

“The goal is to raise £2,500, so I am confident we will get to the target in no time.

“I’d like to thank The White Horse pub for sponsoring the run and the Hutton Cranswick SRA for hosting the event and supporting me along the way.”
