Model railway enthusiasts flocked to the Driffield Showground on Saturday as the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) hosted its sixth annual model railway show.

The event took place at the Rix Pavilion and welcomed over 500 visitors from across the region who enjoyed browsing some of the best layouts in the area, as well as trade stands from other heritage railways.

Organisers of the show thanked all the visitors, exhibitors, traders and supporters who contributed to make the show such a success and said all the monies raised will be used to support the ongoing works back at Fimber Halt.

Katy Bowser, event organiser, said: “We have had some wonderful feedback about the show, and we are already working on ideas to ensure that the 2024 event will be even better. We couldn’t do it without everyone’s support and I thank them all for that!”

The first public running day for the YWR of 2023 will be Sunday 9th April (Easter Sunday) when visitors will be able to experience a train ride along the newly extended quarter of a mile of track.

The YWR is always keen to involve new people and anyone interested in becoming a member or volunteering, making a donation or just finding out more can visit the Yorkshire Wolds Railway website or call 01377 338053 for more information.

The YWR will be running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday and bank holiday from Easter until the end of October and every Wednesday during August from 10am – 4pm.

The visitor centre only will be open every Wednesday from Easter until the end of October from 10am-4pm.

Additionally, there are members on site most Saturdays who will be happy to show what is being done, subject to safety requirements.
