RARE PINE MARTEN ROAMS 60 MILES FROM DALBY FOREST TO SPURN POINT
A rare pine marten travelled a distance of 60 miles from the North York Moors to Spurn Point on the East Yorkshire coast.
The mammals usually reside in woodland, however, a photographer spotted the animal at Spurn Point in April.
Paul Willoughby snapped the mammal, with the Yorkshire Pine Marten project later confirming that it had travelled over from North Yorkshire.
Being nocturnal creatures, pine martens are usually difficult to spot. However, cameras at Dalby Forest recorded the animal in March.
The animal was then seen at Spurn Point in April. The last recorded sighting of the pine marten was on 5th June.
These sightings were one of 25 in Yorkshire since 2017, according to the Yorkshire Pine Marten Project. The creatures can live up to the age of eight and are protected species.
