People are being invited along to a free open day at Lelley Fields Crematorium in Preston. The venue will open its doors to the community on Saturday 20th July, from 9am to 1pm, to give residents a behind-the-scenes peek at the East Riding’s newest crematorium.

The open day is a chance for anyone interested in learning about the cremation process to come along and have a tour.

They will be able to explore the building, meet members of the team and ask questions, learn more about the cremation process, wander around its stunning gardens and grounds, and see its artwork, then enjoy free refreshments in a welcoming atmosphere.

Representatives from the medical examiners, registrars and medical referees will also be there to answer any questions at the event.

Christine Walker-Kelley, manager of Lelley Fields Crematorium, said she and the team were looking forward to welcoming people from the local community and further away.

She said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and learn about what we do here, experiencing things they wouldn’t typically get to see.

“They can have a look around, meet our lovely team here and ask any questions they have, nothing is off limits.

“We want to show what an amazing facility this is for the community.”

The event is open to anyone, it’s free and there is no need to book.

Lelley Fields, off Sproatley Road, near Preston, opened in February 2023 and is the first new crematorium to be built in the East Riding since 1998, and the first to be operated by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
