TWO MEN ARRESTED AFTER MAN SEEN WITH KNIFE IN YORK CITY CENTRE

North Yorkshire Police has said its officers have arrested two people from Leeds after a man with a knife was seen to threaten another man in a York city centre street.

The force is now appealing for the victim to come forward along with anyone who witnessed the incident, has any CCTV or was driving past at the time and may have dashcam footage.

North Yorkshire Police’s control room received a call at around 12:30pm on the afternoon of Thursday 10th October after a member of the public saw the incident unfold at the junction of Gillygate and Bootham.

The victim ran from the scene and appeared uninjured. The suspect then got in a car containing another man and the vehicle drove off.

Just over half an hour later, at 1:04pm, officers from the Specialist Operations team had traced the vehicle and intercepted it in the Seacroft area of Leeds.

The occupants, a 17-year-old boy and a 59-year-old man, both from Leeds, were arrested and taken into police custody.

The vehicle was recovered and officers found a large knife and suspected cannabis paraphernalia inside.

• The victim who ran from the scene to come forward
• Any witnesses who saw the incident unfold, or the victim running away
• Any businesses or residents who may have captured the incident or victim on CCTV or doorbell cameras
• Any passing motorists who may have captured the incident or the victim running away on their dashcam

“Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of affray, possessing an offensive weapon, and being concerned in the supply of class B drugs,” said a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

“The 59-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of fraud. Both have been given conditional police bail to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.

“Their bail conditions prevent them from entering North Yorkshire.”
