Neil Young confirmed as Glastonbury headliner – days after musician said he had pulled out of festival

Musician Neil Young will headline this year’s Glastonbury Festival, with the announcement made just days after the 79-year-old said he was pulling out due to the BBC’s involvement.

Young had said that he and his band The Chrome Hearts had pulled out as the festival was ‘a corporate turn-off’ due to the BBC’s influence.

However, he has now released a statement, which says: “Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury festival, which I have always loved.

“Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing.”

Emily Eavis, organiser of Glastonbury Festival, said on Instagram: “What a start to the year. Neil Young is an artist who’s very close to our hearts at Glastonbury.

“He does things his own way and that’s why we love him. We can’t wait to welcome him back here to headline the Pyramid in June.”
