Vandalism leaves Hull and East Yorkshire mental health charity facing thousands in unexpected costs

Staff at mental health charity, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, have been left feeling disheartened after an act of vandalism over the weekend caused significant damage to its headquarters on Beverley Road in Hull, a building where both adults and young people receive mental health counselling and access overnight crisis support.

The attack, which saw pink paint thrown over the building and its signage, has resulted in thousands of pounds worth of repair costs, leaving the charity facing an unexpected financial burden.

The attack comes at a time when charities are already under pressure due to rising demand for services and ongoing financial challenges.

Locally, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind is already bracing for financial strain, with increases in National Insurance and minimum wage set to cost an additional £100,000 per year from April.

This act of vandalism will divert resources that could have been used to support people in need.

Emma Dallimore, Chief Executive of Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, said: “We are heartbroken that someone would target a charity that supports well over 25,000 people in need every year.

“Every penny spent repairing this damage is money that could have gone towards supporting vital mental health services for our community.

“However, we are resilient and committed to continuing our work.”

The charity is now reaching out to the community for support to help cover the cost of repairs and ensure services are not disrupted.

A dedicated donation page has been set up, allowing individuals to contribute directly to the charity’s recovery efforts.
