Posh frocks and flat caps fundraiser at Rix Pavilion for Saint Catherine’s Hospice

Bangers and Cash star Derek Mathewson will make a guest appearance at a charity fundraiser which will take place this April to raise funds for a cuddle bed for Saint Catherine’s Hospice.
The event, entitled Posh Frocks & Flat Caps, will take place on Friday 24th April at the Rix Pavilion at Driffield Showground, and will include a three-course meal, a question-and-answer session with Derek, a large auction and cash raffle.
Event organiser Chris Morris is working with the Saint Catherine’s Hospice Driffield Support Group to raise £15,000 to purchase a second ‘cuddle bed’ which allows patients and their loved one to cherish some of their last moments together.
The Driffield Support Group successfully raised £15,000 over the course of last year thanks to fundraising events and donations from local groups and organisations, to purchase one of the beds which can extend at the touch of a button allowing loved ones to get into the same bed and have a cuddle or offer comfort during some of the most difficult circumstances.
Now Chris, who has raised £20,000 in recent years by organising two successful charity boxing nights, hopes the charity evening in April will raise £15,000 to cover the cost of another of the special beds.
He said: “The support for the charity evening has been tremendous.
“The bar is being provided by White Horse Theatre Bar and the three-course meal of leek and potato soup, meat pie and vegetables, followed by sticky toffee pudding is provided by Rupert’s Kitchens Catering.
“We are delighted to have a special guest appearance from British classic car expert and TV star of Bangers & Cash Derek Mathewson. Derek will share some of his stories from the world of Bangers & Cash, which will be followed by a Q&A, where you can put your own questions to him. He will then run the charity auction on the night.
“We have 20 lots and most of the prizes have been provided by local businesses.
“We have 500 litres of heating oil from Rix; a table for 10 for Driffield Rugby Club; clay pigeon shoot at Cottondale; a family pass for Driffield Show; a voucher for Himalayan Garden at Ripon; a day’s fly fishing from Andrew Dixon; a meal for six to eight people in your own home from Lisa Anderson; a stay at Sledmere House Airbnb; a two-night stay at Flamborough Glamping, and many more prizes.
“There is also a cash raffle on the night. Tickets are going well and it promises to be a fantastic night.”
Derek said he was looking forward to his evening in Driffield and hopes it raises a good amount for Saint Catherine’s Hospice.
He said: “Chris contacted me and asked if I would help out with the charity auction because we do a lot of that.
“The auction has been well supported and there are some great lots.
“There will also be an opportunity for some questions and answers and I am sure it will be a good night.
“We always enjoy these evenings and it is surprising to see how much they raise at the end of the night. I hope it raises a good amount for Saint Catherine’s Hospice.”
Tickets are now available for the charity night with tables of eight or 10 priced £45 per person. If you cannot make up a full table, other arrangements can be made.
Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
