£124,000 scheme to widen seafront footpath in Withernsea

A scheme to widen a footpath to make a joint path and cycleway on the seafront in Withernsea is set to begin in March.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is to invest £124,000 to widen the 300 metre seafront path along Seathorne.

The scheme aims to improve the path for both pedestrians and cyclists along a popular seafront route and help to promote sustainable travel.

The project is due to start on Monday 3rd March and to take around five weeks to complete. Work will involve removing the existing flag paving along the length of the path, cutting into the grass verge to expand its width to three metres, and then laying a new surface.

The path will be closed during the work and a diversion will be put in place for the public. Residents will be given access to their properties at all times.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “I’m pleased we can widen this popular seafront route to include enough space for both cyclists and pedestrians.

“Thank you to walkers and residents for bearing with us during the work until we can reopen the path.”
