Driffield’s Christmas lights to be switched on this Friday
Preparations are well underway for this year’s dazzling Driffield Christmas Festival and Light Switch On.
The festive fun will take place on Friday 30th November and traditionally marks the start of seasonal celebrations in the town.
The fun starts at 5pm, when there will be a Christmas market with more than 40 stalls selling a wide range of festive gifts providing lots of inspiration for stocking fillers and presents for loved ones.
KCFM will host live music in Market Place, with Driffield Rock Choir and York band, Chicago Joe and the Soul Divas creating a festive atmosphere throughout the town
Rev Colin Marchment, Minister of Driffield Methodist Church, will give the blessing and prayers before the lights are switched on by the Mayor, Cllr Joyce Fletcher at 7pm.
There will be more live music afterwards, as well as street entertainment, fairground rides for all ages and Santa will be on hand to enjoy the celebrations.
He will be on his sleigh near the George Street junction, where he will be delighted to meet all the children who can tell him what they would like for Christmas this year.
Once again your local newspaper the Driffield & Wolds Weekly is throwing its full support behind the event by sponsoring the traditional family evening of entertainment.
Shops and businesses in the town are also being encouraged to stay open until late to join in with the festive fun and help create a special and memorable event for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Driffield Town Clerk Claire Binnington said: “The Driffield Christmas Festival and Light Switch On takes place on Friday November 30th 2018 from 5pm to 8pm. There will be fantastic street entertainment in the town centre as well as fairground rides for all ages and over 40 stalls making up the Christmas Market. We hope that all the shops will stay open and embrace this annual Christmas event.”
The dazzling display of Christmas lights are financed and erected by Driffield Town Council.
In order to set up the festive event, Middle Street South will be closed from the King Street junction along to the Cranwell Road junction on Middle Street North.
The road closure has been applied for from 12 noon and will be enforced from 1.30pm. The event will begin at 5pm and is due to finish at 8pm with the roads being re-opened at 10pm.
