Members of the DNAA and DNT hope as many people as possible will support the event to help them save the canal for future generations.

John Scholey, DNT chairman, said: “We have a great line-up of entertainment, and there will be something to interest everybody.

“We are thrilled to have performances by Driffield Musical Theatre on the Saturday evening, which will be followed by a pub night with live entertainment until late.

“The canal groups are also grateful for the generous sponsorship for the event from Driffield Town Council and the Driffield & Wolds Weekly.

“The canal is considered a wonderful asset to Driffield and the wider area and there is now a major drive for it to become fully navigable again.

David Taylor, a canal trustee and DNAA vice-chairman, said: “With the support of local people we can make the gala a really entertaining and enjoyable event.

“The canal is a brilliant stretch of water and we are determined to open it up for boating and other waterway pastimes.”

Supporters can find the gala at Riverhead, Driffield.
