Footworks dance school moves into modern new studio in Driffield

A Driffield dance school has moved into its own studio – more than 30 years after it was first established.

One of the units at Wolds Business Park on Skerne Road has been transformed into Bloom Studios – a modern new facility which will be the home to Footworks Dance.

The new base has two dance studios equipped with mirrors, professional dance flooring, portable barres and also an air ventilation system.

Claire Hayton founded Footworks Dance in 1989, but it has never had its own space, instead hiring halls in Driffield and the Wolds.

She said: “This is something I’ve wanted to happen for a long time now but have struggled to find a venue that meets our needs.

“After a difficult two years in the industry, this is a fresh start we needed and I am now very excited for our future plans.

“I have lots of projects in the pipeline and am looking forward to creating lots of exciting opportunities for our dancers and the local community.

COVID-19 restrictions have meant that Footworks’ young dancers have only been able take part in online competitions over the past couple of years, with few in-person classes.

But with things getting back closer to normal for dance schools, the move to the new studio has come at the perfect time.

Planning permission was secured last year and Claire said she chose the name because she wanted to create a place for Driffield’s young dancers to bloom.

Footworks runs classes in a variety of genres for dancers aged 18 months to 18 years, but Claire has plans to extend the timetable in the future for adults too.

The school says its mission is to provide a supportive and inclusive learning experience in a safe, caring environment, nurturing a love of movement and artistic flow in children of all ages.

It aims to give them the ability to improve their self confidence, self belief and vision, all whilst having fun, making new friends and creating special memories to last a lifetime.
