Hutton Cranswick 10km and family fun day for Macmillan

Runners of all shapes and sizes are invited to take part in the inaugural Hutton Cranswick 10km this summer.

The event will take place on Sunday 31st July and will precede a family fun day in association with Hutton Cranswick SRA.

All profits from race entries will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and the scenic route will take in the breathtaking scenery of Hutton Cranswick and Skerne, as well as the surrounding Yorkshire Wolds.

The 10K is open to up to 200 runners, although I’m not sure how many we will get.

The event has been organised by Alice Read in association with the SRA Committee and sponsored by The White Horse Inn, Hutton Cranswick.

Alice is participating in this year’s London Marathon in aid of Macmillan which continues to support her close friend who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer shortly after giving birth last year.

The 30-year-old told the Wolds Weekly: “I am running the London Marathon this October in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and I have organised the 10k as part of my fundraising.

“I do quite a bit of running to keep fit, but running the London Marathon has always been on my bucket list.

“We all know the incredible work Macmillan does, but what I didn’t realise is the financial support that it also offers in addition to the emotional, medical and physical support.

“My friend was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and the charity has been there to help her with every avenue.

“Anything we can do to support Macmillan and those it supports is fantastic.”

The run will begin at 10am on Hutton Cranswick SRA playing field and all runners are asked to arrive no later than 9:45am.

The route will take in Rotsea Lane and Megginson’s Turnpike in Hutton before heading onto Ricklepits in Skerne.

Once in Skerne, runners will travel along Main Street, Back Lane and West End before returning to SRA.

The 10K will be marshalled throughout with a drinks station at halfway and is open to runners aged 15 years and above in line with UKA regulations.

All finishers will receive a bespoke race memento, with prizes for the first male and female finishers.
All runners will receive a 20 per cent off food voucher for use at The White Horse.

The race will not be chip timed, however, all runners will receive a stopwatch time.

Alice continued: “I have run the route myself to make sure that it is suitable and I’m sure many have seen me running around Hutton Cranswick in my green Macmillan t-shirt.

“The 10K is open to up to 200 runners, although I’m not sure how many we will get.

“Within hours of the event going live, we had people entering, which was amazing.

“Hopefully there will be enough interest to make it an annual event.”

Once the 10K has finished, the family fun day will begin from 11:30am and is free to all members of the public from Hutton Cranswick and further afield.

Attractions will include a bouncy castle, face painting, candy floss and food trucks, an ice cream van, bar, tea and coffee and a tabletop sale. There will also be a raffle.

Alice added: “I am a big believer in the sense of community, which is why we are hosting the family fun day too.

“The SRA is charity run and also needs the support of people.

“The family fun day is the opportunity for everyone to come together after a rubbish couple of years and take advantage of the facility we have in the village.

“There will be activities for everyone and proceeds from the fun day will be split between Macmillan and the SRA.”

Runners are encouraged to car share and use public transport where possible, with the train station in Cranswick just a mile walk from the start.

Car parking is available, but limited, so organisers ask drivers to use the surrounding village streets to park if needed and be mindful to not block driveways or park on homeowners’ land.

There will be ample opportunities for spectators to watch the event.
