RABI Charity ball at Sledmere House raises £13,500 for farming community

Organisers of a charity ball have thanked everyone who supported the event, which raised £13,500 for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).

Ball in the Barn was held at the Sykes Barn at Sledmere House in February and saw 220 guests enjoy a three-course meal, with a main course of Warrendale Wagyu beef, live entertainment from Atlantic 45, an auction and raffle.

The event, supported by Wilfred Scruton Ltd, Sledmere Estate and Warrendale Wagyu, was organised by the East Yorkshire RABI committee. RABI provides support to the farming community including those who are currently working in agriculture and those who are no longer working due to illness, injury, disability or age.

The ball was organised to raise money to support those in the farming community in East Yorkshire and to raise awareness of how the charity can help.

Sally Connor, RABI’s North East regional manager, said: “I was astounded and humbled by the generosity of people and the support they gave.

“The money raised will go towards helping to support the farming community in East Yorkshire; some of our main work is supporting the mental health of farmers, tenants and farm workers and their families who are facing a very difficult harvest.

“I would like to thank Michaela and Chris from Sledmere Estate, Wilfred Scruton Ltd, Warrendale Wagyu, Jim and Sarah Nightingale from the East Yorkshire RABI committee and all the supporters and volunteers who helped on the night.

“Local businesses were very generous in supporting the auction and the raffle and it was a fabulous night.”

A Crowberry Wood fashion show will be held at the Driffield Showground on Thursday 12th September at 7pm in aid of RABI. Tickets priced £15 including a glass of prosecco are available from Sue Woodall on 07811 065389.

RABI will also have a stand at the Driffield Show on 17th July.
