Wind warning issued for parts of East Yorkshire on Thursday and Friday

Strong and gusty winds appear to be on the way to East Yorkshire and other areas of the region on Thursday and Friday after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for wind.

The warning will be in place from 3pm on Thursday until 6am on Friday, when there is potential for some disruption from the high winds.

Those living in the warning area, which includes Snaith in East Yorkshire, where wind gusts could reach 43mph, are being told to expect the following:

– It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
– Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
– Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
– Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
– Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

Westerly or northwesterly winds will increase across Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland, north Wales, northern England, the north Midlands and East Anglia during Thursday afternoon and evening.

Inland gusts of 40-50 mph are possible, with perhaps 60-70 mph along exposed coasts, especially through the North Channel and Irish Sea, causing some travel disruption.

Strong gusts will also be associated with heavy showers which move through at times.
