10 years on the right track! Yorkshire Wolds Railway celebrates a decade of heritage

To mark its 10th anniversary, Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) invited visitors old and new for a day of free travel at the Fimber Halt site last Sunday (25th May 2025).

Around 250 visitors joined members and volunteers at the site to join in with the celebrations and to help raise £1,243 towards the work of the railway.

The idea for opening a heritage railway was first suggested at the inaugural meeting on 10th October 2008. Shortly after, site access and permissions were granted, and £24,000 was raised for the planner’s feasibility study, allowing construction to start in preparation for the grand opening on 25th May 2015 by Sir Tatton Sykes.

Since then, the YWR has grown from a passionate vision to a heritage railway destination, preserving a key piece of local railway history on the former Malton & Driffield Junction Railway.
