Driffield gets set for ‘spectacular’ annual bonfire and fireworks display
Final preparations are being made for this weekend’s Driffield Bonfire and Fireworks display with thousands of people set to descend on Driffield Showground in Kelleythorpe on Saturday 2nd November 2019.
More than 4,000 regularly attend the colourful event which takes place at the Kelleythorpe venue by kind permission of the Driffield Agricultural Society.
The family-friendly display is once again being sponsored by the Driffield & Wolds Weekly and make sure you purchase next week’s edition of the paper for pages of photographs and a full report from the event and others in the area.
As ever, Driffield Town Council has organised the display, with the amazing visual pyrotechnics provided by Nafferton-based firm, The Fireworkers.
The event begins at 4:30pm, with a small fun fair for children and a variety of food outlets selling the usual bonfire fare.
The bonfire will be lit at 7pm before the fireworks display commences at 7:15pm. The event will finish at around 9pm.
For the fifth consecutive year, Driffield Town Council has maintained admission prices at £3 for adults, £1 for children aged five-16 year, whilst under 5s can attend free of charge.
With admission prices kept to a premium, the Town Council is urging the public to support the event rather than park on the bypass and watch the display free of charge, as has happened in previous years.
Car parking is free and those walking to the event can access the Showground from the Town Gate entrance on Beverley Road.
Volunteers from the Driffield Rotary Club and the Driffield & District Lions Club will be marshalling the display and the bonfire has been built by the Town Council’s own Tidy Team.
Organisers ask that no personal fireworks or sparklers are taken along to the Showground.
Before the Kelleythorpe display, Kilham will host its annual bonfire and fireworks event on Friday 1st November.
The gates open at the Kilham Playing Fields, on Back Lane, from 5:30pm, with a bar, hot drinks and food available.
The bonfire will be lit at 6:30pm before the fireworks display commences at 7pm.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the Kilham Playing Fields Association.
Demand has been so great in Nafferton for The Greatest Show fireworks display on that tickets have been sold out for a number of weeks.
The event will see a silent fireworks display which is set to the soundtrack of hit movie The Greatest Showman.
