Car park charges to go up this month

Charges at council car parks in Driffield will increase by at least 10 per cent this month.

Prices at Cross Hill and Beck Side are going up from Thursday 19th May, and the cost of an East Riding Wide Daily Ticket is also rising.

A one-hour stay at Cross Hill will cost £1.60 instead of £1.40, with two hours changing from £3 to £3.50.

This is the first time they have been increased in nine years. We have always resisted putting up parking charges when other prices have increased.

An hour at Beck Side will go up to £1.10 from £1. Two hours will cost £2.30, up from £2, and a three-hour ticket increases from £3 to £3.50. The new price for staying all day will be £4.60, rather than £4.

An East Riding of Yorkshire Council spokesperson said: “We will be raising parking charges in all council car parks and on-street spaces across the East Riding, from 19 May.

“This is the first time they have been increased in nine years. We have always resisted putting up parking charges when other prices have increased.

“However, this is now unavoidable because of the rising costs of providing car parking services.

“All rises are in line with inflation and, compared to other authorities, are still relatively low.

“The increase was agreed in February at a meeting of the council’s cabinet.”

Season passes at Beck Side will also be going up from the same date. A 12-month pass will cost £472.50 (from £450), with six months rising from £240 to £252 and one month’s parking increasing by £2 to £42.

East Riding Wide Daily Tickets can be used at more than one long-stay car park in the county on the same day. These currently cost £5.40 but are set to increase to £6.30, an increase of more than 16 per cent.
