Good news for rail passengers as extra train services are added to timetables

Extra train services have been introduced on the Yorkshire Wolds and Coast line, which serves Driffield, Nafferton and Hutton Cranswick.

Rail operator Northern has confirmed its new timetable which came into effect on 15th May will see services return to full capacity on the route between Scarborough and Hull.

As a result of changes, there will be 35 daily services from Driffield to Bridlington, up from 28 in the current timetable.

Seventeen of these trains will proceed on to Scarborough. Sunday services remain at 14.

Passengers heading from Driffield towards Beverley and Hull will have 37 services, Monday to Saturday, starting at 7am and running until 11:20pm.

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern said: “Customers are at the heart of everything we do and the new timetables are designed to deliver high levels of reliability.

“We’ve made decisions about our timetables based on the levels of resource we have available and prioritising the routes with the highest customer demand and which support the region’s economic growth.

“We fully understand the role we play in keeping people on the move and I am asking our customers to familiarise themselves with the new timetables, and to check carefully before any journeys to ensure their journeys go as smoothly as possible.”

Northern had to scale back its service in the winter, which meant hourly services from Driffield in both directions for much of the day, except for at peak times.

It said the COVID-19 outbreak caused significant delays in driver training due to the small size of drivers’ cabs.

When pressed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Beverley MP Graham Stuart, after fears from residents that the reduced timetable would become the norm long-term, the company insisted it would be able to resolve the issues by this month and has remained true to its word.
