SEPTEMBER HEATWAVE BRINGS HOTTEST DAY OF 2023 AND BREAKS NEW RECORD

The Met Office has said that Thursday has been the hottest day of the year so far, according to provisional figures.

Forecasters are predicting that hotter temperatures are on the way over the next few days.

Temperatures have reached 32.6C in Wisley, Surrey, breaking the 32.2C seen in June.

The UK had its hottest September day since 2016 on Wednesday, as Kew Gardens recorded 32C.

Temperatures are likely to rise and peak on Saturday, when the thermometer could hit 33C during the day and 20C during the evenings.

An amber heat health alert is in place for Yorkshire and the Humber until 9pm on Sunday.
