FLOOD WARNING & ALERT IN PLACE FOR NORTH SEA COAST AT SKIPSEA, HORNSEA AND MAPPLETON DUE TO ‘HIGH ASTRONOMICAL TIDES’

A flood alert is currently in place for the North Sea coast at Skipsea, Hornsea and Mappleton, warning residents living in the area that flooding is possible and to make preparations.

The Environment Agency has said that high spring tides may cause large waves and overtopping spray along the coast during Friday morning (29th September).

The areas deemed most at risk are the North Sea coast from Skipsea to Mappleton, including Hornsea, between 3:15am and 5am.

The high astronomical tides will continue into the next few days, before peaking on Saturday.

The Environment Agency will monitor the forecast and reissue the alert if required.

“Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous,” said a spokesperson.

The flood warning for the North Sea coast at Hornsea covers at risk areas including Marine Drive, along South Promenade, Hornsea Burton Road and along Stream Dike and Foss Beck between 3:15am to 5am, whilst the high astronomical tides will also peak on Saturday.
