STORM BERT TO BRING SNOW, RAIN AND 70MPH WINDS TO UK THIS WEEKEND

Storm Bert, the second named storm of the season, is set to bring snow, rain and winds of up to 70mph to parts of the UK this weekend, says the Met Office.

The 70mph winds could affect East and North Yorkshire, with heavy snow and rain also potentially causing disruption.

A yellow warning for wind has been issued for East and North Yorkshire between 5am and 7pm on Saturday.

During this period, Storm Bert will bring strong winds for a time on Saturday, which may cause some disruption in places.

Those living in the warning area should expect the following:

– Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
– It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
– Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
– Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
– Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

A period of strong southeasterly winds is likely for a time on Saturday, with peak gusts of 50-60 mph in many parts of the warning area, but 60-70 mph in some coastal areas and also locally to the lee (northwest) of high ground, and perhaps in excess of 70 mph along some exposed coasts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
