Council tackles anti-social behaviour in Pocklington with new closure order

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has obtained a partial closure order on a property in Pocklington, following reports of anti-social behaviour and alleged criminal activity.

The partial closure order was granted by Beverley magistrates on Friday 22nd November against 2 Manor Close.

The property, a third floor flat, is owned and managed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Beverley Magistrates Court heard how local residents had reported loud music at unsociable hours, visitors under the influence of drugs and alcohol, alleged drug dealing, public urination, and littering in communal areas.

Police had been repeatedly dispatched to the property in response to reports of disturbances, while residents had reported feeling unsafe in their own homes.

Residents had made complaints anonymously, out of fear of retaliation, and reported being verbally abused and intimidated by visitors to the property.

In response to the testimony, the court granted the partial closure order. This means that no one can enter the property for three months except for the tenant, officers from the council, police, other emergency services or utility providers. 

This latest closure follows other closure orders for properties in Bridlington, in Pinfold Street, Abbotts Way, and Harrington Road.

Nigel Brignall, manager of the anti-social behaviour team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This closure order is the latest example of the council’s determined action to tackle anti-social behaviour in the East Riding.

“I encourage residents to report any concerns they have about anti-social behaviour to the council, so that action can be taken.”
