Manchester Airport closes runways due to ‘significant levels of snow’

Manchester Airport has closed its runways as a result of ‘significant levels of snow’, with passengers urged to allow for additional travel time throughout Thursday.

“Our runways are temporarily closed due to significant levels of snow, as our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible,” said a statement from the airport.

“The safety of passengers is our top priority and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra travel time today.”

Overnight temperatures in some parts of the UK dropped to -16C, with snow, ice and fog warnings issued.
