Driffield Rec Club Set to Host Annual Gala This Sunday

Final preparations are underway for the much-loved Annual Gala day at Driffield Town Cricket & Recreation Club, which takes place this Sunday, 6th July, at the club’s grounds on Kings Mill Road.

The event begins at 10am, featuring a car boot sale and a junior football tournament with teams in the Under 7 and Under 9 age groups showcasing their skills.

At 12:45pm, the Mayor of Driffield, Councillor Fred Smith, will officially open the gala, kicking off an afternoon packed with entertainment, activities, and fun for the whole family.

Live Entertainment & Displays

Throughout the afternoon, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of live displays and performances, including:

  • High impact exercise demonstration
  • Dance routines from Footworks and LS School of Dance
  • A traditional performance from Makara Morris
  • Lively line dancing by Hot Steps Country

Dog Show Returns

A highlight of the day is the return of the popular Dog Show, sponsored by the Driffield & Wolds Weekly.

  • Registration opens at 12:30pm
  • Judging begins at 1:30pm
  • Entry is just £2 per class

  • Best Puppy (under 2 Years)
  • Best Veteran (8+ years)
  • Best Pedigree
  • Best Crossbreed or Rescue
  • Best Condition
  • Prettiest Bitch
  • Most Handsome Dog
  • Best Six Legs (dog and handler)

  • Best Child Handler
  • Dog Most Like Its Owner
  • Most Appealing Eyes

Family Fun & Attractions

There’s something for all ages around the grounds, with attractions including:

  • Giant climbing wall
  • Inflatable obstacle course
  • Bouncy castle
  • Face painting
  • Giant garden games
  • Hook a duck
  • Splat a rat
  • Have-a-go tennis, archery and target bowls

Food, Drink & Raffle

A variety of refreshments will be on offer all day, including:

  • Sandwiches
  • Homemade cakes
  • Cream teas
  • Barbecue with burgers and hot dogs
  • Hot and cold drinks

The clubhouse bar opens at 12 noon, and a large tombola and raffle will be running throughout the day. Raffle tickets are available inside the clubhouse, with the draw taking place later in the afternoon. Winning numbers will also be printed in the next edition of the Driffield & Wolds Weekly.

Children’s Races

The gala will end on a high note with children’s races at around 4:30pm, open to children from pre-school age to Year 6.
