Plans to close Caledonian’s Driffield site

Off-site modular building specialist Caledonian has announced plans to close its Driffield site.
The manufacturing site based in former aircraft hangars at Kelleythorpe employs around 30 people.
Bosses at Caledonian are currently in consultation with staff representatives at Driffield.
Plans are to transfer operations to the company’s principal manufacturing facility at Newark.
Caledonian bosses said the reason for the planned closure was part of its ongoing work to streamline the business, which forms part of a transformation programme that “will see the business double revenues over the next three years.”
In a statement the company said it hopes to keep job losses to a minimum with key roles being transferred to Newark.

A spokesman for Caledonian Modular said: “Caledonian has ambitious plans to double revenue over the next few years and has a clear business plan that sets out its strategy and growth objectives, in conjunction with an ongoing investment in its manufacturing facilities and its people.”
The Driffield factory opened in 2008 following a £2m investment by Caledonian to transform the former RAF buildings at Driffield Business Park at Kelleythorpe into manufacturing facilities.
At the time, the opening of the Driffield site was seen as a major boost to the town, promising to create 100 jobs.
Work carried out by staff at the Driffield factory has included MoD contracts and school buildings.

The Newark factory is situated on a 40 acre site, which is the largest single modular manufacturing facility in the UK and has capacity to fulfil the company’s expansion plans over the coming years.
The company said: “A further 160 jobs could be created at the Newark facility over the next 18 months.”

Caledonian Modular is a subsidiary of Champion Homes – the largest offsite house builder in the US with annual revenues in excess of £540m.
