Excitement building ahead of Friday’s big switch-on

Excitement is building ahead of Friday night’s dazzling Driffield Christmas Festival and Light Switch On.

The festive fun, organised by Driffield Town Council, starts at 5pm, when there will be a Christmas market selling a wide range of festive gifts providing lots of inspiration for stocking fillers and presents for loved ones.

KCFM will host live music in Market Place, with Driffield School Band entertaining the crowds from 5pm.

Santa will arrive at 5.45pm, after which Chicago Joe and the Soul Divas will help to create a festive atmosphere throughout the town until the lights are switched on by the Mayor, Cllr Amanda Croft at 7pm.

There will be more live music afterwards, as well as street entertainment including stilt walkers, fairground rides for all ages will be situated in the road closure area and Santa will be on hand to enjoy the celebrations.

Shops and businesses in the town, including your local newspaper, the Driffield & Wolds Weekly, are also staying open until late to join in with the festive fun and to help create a special and memorable event for residents and visitors to enjoy.

In order to set up the festive event, road closures will be in place from 12 noon in Market Place from the Cranwell Road junction, along with Mill Street to the Westgate junction, Exchange Street from the Eastgate junction, and George Street from Union Street junction. Middle Street South from Market Place to the King Street junction will also be closed.

The event will begin at 5pm and is due to finish at 8pm with the roads being re-opened at 10pm.

Final preparations are underway as the Driffield & Wolds Weekly looks forward to welcoming a very special guest to spread some festive cheer this Christmas.

Santa will be taking time out from his busy festive schedule to visit the Driffield & Wolds Weekly offices and is looking forward to meeting the town’s children to find out what is at the top of their Christmas list!
For the first time, your favourite newspaper is hosting a festive charity Santa’s grotto at our offices on Middle Street South.

The magical grotto, which will raise funds for Dove House Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie, will be open during Friday evening’s Christmas Festival and Lights Switch On from 5pm until 8pm.

Santa has also managed to squeeze in further visits to our grotto on :-

Wednesday 4th December from 4pm until 6pm

Saturday 7th December from 10am until 12noon and again on

Wednesday 11th December from 4pm until 6pm.

Please come along and visit Santa in his grotto at our offices at 73 Middle Street South. For £5 per child, your little one will have the chance to meet Santa and will receive a small gift. Every penny from the grotto will be donated to charity
