Full programme of events planned for Yorkshire Day Weekend

Final plans to celebrate everything that is Yorkshire in Driffield across the weekend of 30th and 31st July are being drawn up.

A whole weekend of events has been planned for the town, including a two-site artisan market of more than 70 stalls of Yorkshire crafts and food, Driffield Male Voice Choir performing on the Umbrella Plaza, dialect readings and a wide variety of water-based events as part of the Driffield Canal Fest, organised by the Driffield Navigation Trust.

The event is a united effort to celebrate Yorkshire Day, which takes place on 1st August, and boost business for the town by attracting local residents and visitors.

“Driffield is the Capital of the Wolds and the perfect place to celebrate our Yorkshire heritage for a whole weekend,” said Councillor Mark Blakeston, Mayor of Driffield.

“We are hoping to add to the success of the recent Wold Rangers Way Walking Festival by attracting both local people and visitors into our amazing town and I urge everyone to put the weekend’s events in their diaries.”

Little Bird Artisan Markets, a nominee in the Yorkshire Independent Business of the Year Award 2022, will be supporting Driffield Town Council in running the market which will have more than 70 stalls.

Local shops and businesses are adding their support to the event by adopting extra opening hours, window displays, Yorkshire-style uniforms and produce.

“The Driffield Yorkshire Weekend is the first of its kind and is aimed at bringing people into our gorgeous town to enjoy all our independent shops and eateries as well as the added bonus of an artisan market and themed events and attractions for all the family,” said Jill Baldwin, Driffield Town Centre Officer.

“It looks set to be a weekend to remember and I urge everyone to come along and enjoy all that Driffield has to offer, and a bit more.”
