PHOTOS: Driffield School students receive their A-Level results

Two years of hard work proved fruitful for Year 13 students at Driffield School & Sixth Form, with beaming smiles on the faces of the Class of 2022 last Thursday (18th August) as the year group received an outstanding set of A-level results.

After two years of disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Driffield cohort were the first to sit exams since 2019.

And judging by the number of students who had been successful in being granted a place at their first-choice university, and the fantastic reactions from the teenagers when they opened their results at the school, it was a successful year for the Manorfield Road school.

Due to COVID continuing to cause disruption to many students, Driffield School has made the decision not to release details of its overall grade performance.

However, across the UK, although grades were lower than in 2020 and 2021, results are higher than levels before the pandemic, figures which are likely to be reflected at Driffield.

There was a feeling of euphoria among students and staff as everyone arrived to the Driffield Sixth Form Centre to collect their grades.

Among a record number of results who received top marks were Jacob Day, James Dee, Callum Fletcher-Barry and Iwo Wasek, who attained straight As across all subjects.

Darren Andrews, head of sixth form, said that the results prove that Driffield students have stood up to all the challenges they have faced in recent years.

“We are thrilled with the outstanding results that our class of 2022 students have achieved at Driffield Sixth Form,” he said.

“I always tell them that a Driffield student is as good as any student in the country and this year’s results prove that statement to be more than right.

There have been many superlative performances across the cohort and as a school and sixth form we are incredibly proud of the way that our students have negotiated the immense challenges of the last two years.

“They have been a vibrant and committed cohort who have contributed hugely to the life of the sixth form and it is wonderful to see them secure the outcomes that they deserve.

We are extremely proud of the work of our MEDSOC group, with yet again 100 per cent of our medicine and veterinary offer holders securing their place.

“In addition, a record number of students have achieved the top grades across all of their subjects with notably Jacob Day, James Dee, Callum Fletcher-Barry and Iwo Wasek gaining As in all their subjects.

“This sees half of our student achieving at least one grade A or above.”
