Driffield Show will return to one-day event in 2023

The organisers of Driffield Show have confirmed that following feedback from this year’s event, the 147th edition will revert to the usual one-day format for the first time in four years.

The Show was first held across two days in 2021, when it was one of the first major events to take place in the East Riding following the lifting of the majority COVID restrictions.

Despite a four-week delay in the easing of restrictions, Driffield Show was still able to go ahead with a capacity of 10,000 people per day, which ensured ample social distancing could be maintained around the Kelleythorpe site.

After the Show’s successful return, comments from visitors and exhibitors, the Driffield Agricultural Society decided to hold it over two days again this year, increasing the cap to 15,000 each day and maintaining wider avenues.

But, although it was another well-attended Show, organisers have listened to feedback they have received over the last five weeks and made the call that the 147th Driffield Show will take place over one day.

“We are eager to start planning for next year’s Show and to regain our title as the biggest and best one-day agricultural show in the country,” said a spokesperson for the Driffield Agricultural Society, organisers of the Show.

“The Driffield Agricultural Society will be celebrating the area’s agricultural heritage whilst also taking the time to embrace new developments.

“Visitors can be reassured that there will still be a vast range of activities, displays, educational content and demonstrations available, designed to suit everyone regardless of age or interests.

“Show organisers are proud that the Driffield Show is the Show that has ‘something for everyone’.

“There will be plenty of opportunities for those enjoying a spot of retail therapy, with the aim to have the usual 450 trade stands to choose from, ranging from lifestyle and fashion, to crafts and local produce.

“As well as retail opportunities the Show will also contain the same calibre of entertainment, livestock and equine classes that people expect of the Driffield Show.”

Further details about the 147th Driffield Show will be announced in due course.
